Expectation?

"If you aim high, you can achieve high. If you aim low, you never achieve high." - someone told me few years ago.

But, there is a saying - "The more the wish you make, the more you're disappointing". What is the meaning behind this sentence? Does it really asking me not to make a wish? Is it contradicting to the first sentence mentioned?

Indeed, they are not contradicting to each other. Hope or wish is totally different from the target we aimed for.

hope - noun. a person or thing in which expectations are centered (see entry on Dictionary.com)
target - noun. a goal to be reached (see entry on Dictionary.com)

In the first talk given out on April, I planned to talk about JVM. It's in the period of project deadline and revision period. I made a rough expectation of audience as 3x. But, at last, there was only 1x attended. Quite a disappointment... /_\

This time, in the second talk; it's already in the summer break and holidays. Thus, I made a survey to ask for a time frame that hope to have someone come back to the campus. What I talked this time is RIA and I hoped to have 1x to come.

What's the result?

This time, an unexpected number, 2x appeared.

I think again and again that what makes the difference? Because of the exam? the project? the topic? or the speaker? Why does people come back in the morning of a public holiday? What's attracting them to come.

Perhaps, the answer is the content.

RIA is really a hot topic. It's actually a war. A war among Microsoft, Adobe, Sun Microsystems, etc. I do agree that Adobe Flex is really great and some leap forward among others. But, does this mean the one chasing at the back won't turnover? Sometimes, comparison is good; but sometimes it's not a good idea. Although, HK-ers especially like comparison ... They like to know ... which one is good for them and which one they should use at the time being. Thus, the topic and the content of the talk attracted them to come in the morning.

To wrap up, there are totally 5x audience in the talks on this topic held in 3 of the universities in HK comparing to 3x in the last one.

In upcoming 20th June... It's the day for another event. The Sun's Certification Day in HK. How many audience are students? Will it be crowded?

Sometimes, I still make wishes because I believe I need to have something to hope for while I targeted for something. "Hope for tomorrow". I hope the students know this is a great chance to know more about Sun Microsystems, it's technology and it's certification.
